Breast Cancer

“My story is about knowing your own body…
In October 2004, I found a lump in my right breast. I was not too upset or worried about it because I had a normal mammogram in August of 2004, just as I had done so each year since I turned forty. Later in that month I saw my Dr. who suggested an ultra sound and then a biopsy. It turned out that I did have a malignant tumor. It required three surgeries to get all the cancer cells. Surgery was followed by chemo and radiation. I did not want to travel to Ashland for treatment, so I made an appointment with the Highlands Cancer Center. I met with Dr. Jain January of 2005 and he had a plan for me. I trusted his plan and decided to follow his instructions. I am so glad I made the decision to do my treatment at Highlands Cancer Center. My treatments went well, the staff was great and it’s only a short distance from my home. My advice as I talk to other people about cancer is, keep your scans updated and know your own body. I am thankful that I am cancer free.”
